I’ve been so impressed with the level of quality instruction that Pam provides in this course. I’ve been an oil and cold wax painter for about 5 years and as I’ve progressed through the video instruction I find so much solid information via Pam’s demos, coursework, PDFs and community support that I feel is taking me to a higher level of competency and creativity as an artist. My biggest challenge has been having a clear roadmap to assess the strength of my painting and having the tools to play, critique, discern editing decisions, stretch as an artist, and develop increased level of finesse for a finished work. Now I have that. I can’t thank you enough Pam! I think this course is perfect for any level of artist. It’s meets you where you are and provides what you need and more!

If you have viewed the whole course believe me you can watch it again and again. It is one thing knowing principles of design and color in your head and quite another thing to fully incorporate these principles in your practice so that they are second nature to you. Having these videos at your fingertips is a great luxury. The knowledge you will gain is transferable to any art medium. This is a road map to art making with lots and lots of space for self-discovery. Pam gives you tools both for analyzing where you are and how to assess your work. And on top of that there is loads of practical knowledge covering the absolute basics right up to ways to present your finished work.

The information is much “more than”, could be covered in a four-day workshop. I’m not sure a semester long course could even provide all this info to a student. All the information in this course could be divided into separate courses: a “how to” use cold wax medium, a design class, and a color class. Students are gaining a treasure chest of knowledge by taking this class! This course would be a complete encyclopedia on cold wax medium, how to use it and so much more, including 2D design class, color, art history. The videos are vital for a student to see the mechanics of “how to”! Better than just the written word.

"At this point I've gotten through Lesson 6 in Mod. One, and, I'm absolutely THRILLED! I'm so excited for myself and for everyone I'm going to be sharing this opportunity with! Prior to viewing any part of the course, I'd jotted down components of what would be "Must Haves" to make this course "Rock" for me, and, BABY YOU GOT IT! You're teaching and presenting from an intelligent MFA level which is soo important. I love how you incorporated the verbiage within the "Sketch Book" of the "Elements of Design"! Bingo! YOU truly are a GREAT Teacher! Wowie! THANKS! So happy!! Dancing!!"

Pam’s online course, “Powerful Design and Personal Color” is exceptional!! I highly recommend it, whether you have a formal degree in art or you are a self-taught artist. All of us share the dilemma of how to proceed with a “problem” painting---not knowing what’s wrong or how to fix it. Pam Caughey possesses an uncommon ability to teach us new ways to see our art and analyze it for both strengths and shortcomings. Her lessons and demonstrations are clear and illuminating. She offers so many tips, techniques, examples and details throughout the modules. Pam reviews each of the design elements, with particular attention to the importance of varied shapes and clear values. This online course is a terrific resource. You can complete it at your own pace and return to any module for a “refresher” lesson anytime in the future. I am grateful to Pam for all that she includes in this comprehensive course. She does so with expertise and a sense of camaraderie. She is an accomplished artist, wonderful teacher and generous soul who gives us new ways to see, and improve, the art we make. Do yourself a great kindness and take this course!

Taking Pamela Caughey's online course, Powerful Design and Personal Color, was an extraordinary experience. As a lover of art workshops I can say this was one of a kind. Not only did Pam cover a medium new to me, she integrated a course in design and color that will translate to any medium, while doing so. Pamala is one of those rare combinations of impressive artists and great teachers. For me, this wasn't a weekend or even a five day training; I will be going through the processes in this course again and again while I continue to develop my authentic artistic voice. Thank you Pam for helping with this journey!

The PLAY stage was a big eye-opener for me--intentionally not thinking about, not trying to control, not trying to make or do or achieve at that stage, gave me a happy sense of freedom as I watched lines, textures, color blends amazing showing up on the paper. During the EXPLORE stage I realized how much I really do enjoy taking risks, trying new things, painting over areas. Letting things go now feels bold and energetic. I have a new appreciation for value– a whole new awareness actually--I wasn’t seeing things in those terms at all.

Your course reinforces the positive constructive voice inside and taught me to keep encouraging myself to try something new, experiment, learn the science and language of art. Module 5 of PDPC is such comprehensive instruction I can hear the words in my head as I am painting, which truly helps me with all the stages. An Aha moment for me was the realization that I only express myself through art, that I am completely incapable of copying and producing anyone else's work but my own, whether it is good, bad, ok or great it is mine and that is all that matters. I believe that is a powerful place to be. Trust and courage to be bold is something I learned through taking your course. Thank you for recognising the individuality and valuing the personal voice we all have.

I've joined your mentorship program as a founder and cannot wait for the launch! I love your teaching style and professionalism. The course is structured so incredibly well with clarity and organization that is easy to follow. My biggest "Aha" moment was how to identify my treasures and show my gems! I love these metaphors - this was the missing piece for me and the biggest take-away that has allowed me to take my work to the next level. I now feel ready to explore more of "me" in my work and the format has given me the confidence to get right to work without fear or feeling I'm painting blindly without knowing how to go deeper.

PLAY is so good for me to do, to let everything just go and put paint and marks down. This course is so beautifully organized and planned out, it flows along easily and is very enjoyable to follow. The modules are all exciting, and there is a wealth of material in all of them to take in, to learn and absorb. I quite like that I can refer to any part of this course whenever I need to, it's all on my laptop.

This course has taught me more about art and design than I have in my entire life. It must be the most successful investment I have made so far because of its highly educational content. All in all, it's hard to describe what I like the best, because it all adds up to one wonderful, powerful, uplifting, encouraging and educational package of pure joy.. Really Pamela, this course has changed my life forever and I will never be the same again.

The play stage encourages the muse to be involved in the process without judging too soon. The explore stage relieves the pressure again of not cutting off the intuitive and just realizing change in the painting is normal and expected. The clarify stage is time for the analytical left brain to come in for the home stretch.

My most important aha-moment was how you mix one color or the primary colors, the secondary colors with all the tints, shades and tones. Eureka! Another valuable experience from the course is how to use tools to get out of a stuck situation. Knowing what you have and what you dont have is extremely helpful in such a situation.

I think the lesson about value was a light being switched on. I really hadn’t thought about it and now I think about it a lot when I’m painting. It makes a huge difference in my work and I understand why it’s so important. Also, I think about color differently. I’d always been intuitive about it and still am, but I’m more aware of what I’m doing with it.

I can only say that it took me forever to tweak and re-tweak my work until I was happy with it. I've worked professionally for 15 years and have never worked so hard on anything else before. I would have to say that the final outcome was my aha moment.

Being in the play stage has influenced me in other artistic endeavors like drawing, collage and even knitting. I find I'm loosening up and just doodling, for example, instead of trying to "make" something. As a result I'm working looser and making marks and shapes I've never made before. And, having a lot of fun!

All the way through, I had Aha moments! The instruction and demonstration of color mixing was excellent. The videos regarding judging a painting were a revelation. I appreciate the information so much! Thank you.

I loved that the whole course gave so much information in different ways. I did like the conference calls because I get a lot out of critiques, love the demonstrations and I learned new techniques and tools.

I was so delightfully surprised to learn how tints, tones and shades of various complementary and triad combinations could create such a lovely variety of colors. Was so excited I started making color cards of these combinations to hang on my studio wall. Your wealth of knowledge and your organized and gentle way of sharing it with us are delightful. I feel so inspired and lucky to have found your courses.

The entire course was one BIG "AHA!" moment for me! Play, explore, and clarify really simplified things for me, and actually removed the fear of getting started and when to say STOP. This course gets top marks from me!

Learning about value. Learning about design. I’d never really considered the importance of value and design. I’m self-taught and worked by intuition versus art in the stages.

Aha on those 3 stages that have been laid out so nicely; aha on the many tools one can use for marks, and finally aha on importance of values instead of focusing on only the colors as I did previously.

I loved being able to watch you go through the process of painting in the course and also the WLG. I love that it is-self paced. I love your honesty, humility and openness to share.
